OT Fabric's notes

What stands out

For IEC 61850, the committee that writes the standard and the community that tests it are different bodies. IEC TC 57 develops the standard, and experts reach it through national committees. UCAIug is where utilities, vendors and labs meet to share experience and run the interoperability (IOP) events.

Corporate membership is priced by revenue and starts at $1,375 a year for companies under $1M. Individual, university and regulator memberships exist but are priced on request, so a solo engineer has to ask.

The IOP is the main public venue where independent IEC 61850 implementations meet. Its page invites global stakeholders without stating a membership requirement, so it is worth asking the organizers directly before planning around it.
