go-ieee20305
IEEE 2030.5 (Smart Energy Profile 2.0) client, device agent and server for every function set, editions 2018 and 2023, CSIP and CSIP-AUS, and CCM_8. No dependencies.
go get github.com/otfabric/go-ieee20305SunSpec Alliance publishes the SunSpec Modbus information models that solar inverters, batteries and meters expose, and runs certification programs for them and for IEEE 2030.5 / CSIP, for products used with California's investor-owned utilities under Rule 21.
OT Fabric is not affiliated with SunSpec Alliance. This profile is independent and based on the organization's own published pages, linked next to each fact. SunSpec Alliance is the authority on its terms and fees.
Each question is separate, because "open" and "free" mean different things here. A yes always means open or free to someone who is not a member.
Published examples as listed on the organization's pages on 23 Oct 2026. Where a page does not say whether a fee recurs, we do not guess.
| Tier | Published fee | Who can join | Votes | Working groups | Source |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Non-member | Free | –Free specifications and certification registry; certification fee $10,000. | Unknown | No | sunspec.org |
| Individual | $1,000 a year | Academics, individual researchers, hobbyists, open-source developers and other individuals.Personal participation; certification fee $10,000. | Unknown | Yes | sunspec.org |
| Contributing | $5,000 a year | –Unlimited company participation; certification fee $5,000 plus certification and software discounts. | Unknown | Yes | sunspec.org |
SunSpec is a good example of why "open" needs splitting up. The specifications are free to download and use, working groups are for members, and certification is open to anyone but costs twice as much without a Contributing membership.
The Individual tier is aimed at academics, researchers, hobbyists and open-source developers. At $1,000 a year it is a real cost for a lone maintainer, but it is the route into working groups for someone who does not represent a company.
For IEEE 2030.5, SunSpec is the certification body for California's CSIP profile, not the publisher of the standard: IEEE SA publishes IEEE 2030.5 itself. The certification test procedures are free to download from the specifications page, which makes them a useful public reference for independent implementations.
Independent open-source work on the same protocols. Listing them here does not mean they are certified by or associated with SunSpec Alliance.

go get github.com/otfabric/go-ieee20305SunSpec over Modbus, both sides: discovers and decodes 112 built-in models into typed, scaled values, and serves simulated or real SunSpec devices.
go get github.com/otfabric/go-sunspecDetect, list, read and poll SunSpec inverters, meters and batteries, and serve a simulated device from a JSON file or a capture of a real one.
IEEE 2030.5 reference stacks: ANU Envoy, GridAPPS-D, DER Security py20305 and the EPRI client, with mutual TLS and baseline, CSIP and CSIP-AUS fixtures.
Connect to a SunSpec inverter, meter or battery and see every model it exposes fully decoded. Read once or poll, record and export, without ever writing to the device.
