PROFINET IO-Controller and IO-Device: DCP, LLDP, records, I&M, diagnosis, alarms, cyclic RT data, shared device, MRP rings and GSDML. Raw Ethernet on Linux, macOS and Windows. No dependencies.
What it does
- IO-Controller: finds devices by station name with DCP, optionally assigns their address, connects in legacy (RT_CLASS_1) or advanced (RT_CLASS_2) startup, writes parameters, exchanges cyclic data, acknowledges alarms and reconnects after a failure, one lifecycle per device.
- IO-Device: DCP responder with Hello, LLDP, the RPC server for Connect, Read, Write, Control and Release, several ARs, shared device, process, diagnosis and plug alarms, I&M0 to I&M4, port data and port checks, with optional persistence of name, address and I&M.
- Media redundancy on multiport devices: MRP client, manager and automatic manager on a software switch, plus a read-only SNMP agent with MIB-II and the LLDP-MIB.
- GSDML: parse, validate against an independent schema catalog, convert to device models and generate a device's own file; a safe inspector for GSDX containers.
- Raw Ethernet on Linux (AF_PACKET), macOS and the BSDs (BPF) and Windows (Npcap), and an in-memory virtual Ethernet with seeded faults, so a controller and devices run in one process without privileges.
- Interop tested in CI against p-net, pnio-rs, profinet-py and pnio-dcp, two MRP implementations and Net-SNMP, with Wireshark and scapy decoding every capture: 248 checks pass, none fail.
- Not certified by PI and no conformance claim. No IRT, PROFIsafe or PROFINET security classes; cyclic timing runs on Go timers, not a real-time OS.
